America, Land of the Hypocrite

I’m going to keep this simple, because getting to deep or emotional is how people lose sight of a problem that needs correcting.

Oregon health inspectors, following the law, enforce it and tell a seven-year old girl in Oregon she needs to close up shop because she has not followed the law.  (The support she received later made the inspectors get told to back off.)

A mosque is trying to be built on/near the grounds of the 9/11/2003 World Trade Center attack in the United States, and people are stunned that the President of the United States is supporting it, and they want it stopped, which would require breaking the law.

I’m not going to elaborate further, because if you don’t see the crystal clear point that I just made – You are letting your emotions get in the way, plain and simple.

Freedom for all, means even those we don’t like or agree with.  If you have an issue with that, move.

545 People

I came across today, through Twitter, if you can imagine, an article simply titled “545 people vs 300,000,000” – Huh, I thought.  I read it, realizing it wasn’t even the original article.  Did some digging and came across the truth that the original had been WRITTEN in 1985 by Charley Reese and first published by Orlando Sentinel Star newspaper in 1995 – W.T.F.

I am going to quote the full text here myself, it is WELL worth the read by any American, regardless of political affiliations.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.”

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall.. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi… She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red ..

If the Army &Marines are in IRAQ , it’s because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems..

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

I’m not going to sit here and type out what I believe we should do to fix the problem, I am not going to get on a high horse and start shouting at the top of my lungs that I have the absolute answer – I don’t.  What I do have, however, is the simple ability to read the above quoted words and realize they are true without going any deeper into specific issues.

Do I really need to start talking about how much I hate that our troops are in Iraq, getting killed for something I don’t believe in?  No, for that leads to serving our country, blaming of the past President of the United States, big oil, etc ad nauseam.  What’s that have to do with those 545 people misrepresenting my best interests?

Do I need to whine about how the Social Security Tax I am paying with my hard work, isn’t going to be around when it’s my time to collect it?  No, for that leads to the defensive talks of having to help our elderly, disabled or otherwise entitled people of age survive while unemployed.  Personally, that’s what they call a SAVINGs account and oh, I’m a big fan of Soylent Green.

We need not discuss any of that distracting nonsense.  We should not blind ourselves and clutter the field with items that are irrelevant to the above quoted truths on the 545 people who should be serving their country but by all appearances, are only serving themselves, their careers, their interests and agendas, etc ad nauseam.  They want us, the American people, to focus on the specific issues so we forget the larger truth.  They want you to zoom in on the minor cracks in the foundation, the ones that will take years and years to do real harm, while completely ignoring the rotting, termite infested regions that are causing the cracks to begin with.

545 people are acting like that brown-nosing co-worker who always blames other employees.  Shirking away from responsibility.

545 people are saying they stand for Truth, Justice and Liberty….while blatantly taking a piss all over the words.  Hypocritical.

545 people know exactly what the left AND right hands are doing, but choose to ignore them.  For if one hand isn’t help them, it’s helping someone who can help them!  Selfish.

545 people only speak out against those hands, when they aren’t doing anything for them.  They only speak up when it seems to make them look good.  Manipulative.

545 people are spending taxpayer money that we already don’t have and saying they will lower taxes.  Lying.

545 people are making every single United States citizen a chump.  545 people are being copied and mirrored.

Sure, we all need to better ourselves but when these 545 people make the decision to be in their positions, they have to rise above the blame game and take responsibility for their actions and live with the consequences; maybe next time they will learn.  When these 545 people say they stand for and believe in something, they need to make their votes, the ONLY actions that matter from them, represent their words.  When these 545 people see one hand being naughty, they need to make sure it gets slapped and punished accordingly, even if it means taking a little heat or getting nothing in return themselves; maybe next time they will learn.  When these 545 people open their mouths to speak, the words that come out should make sense, for they should be common sense, the words of the people, for the people they serve.  And when these 545 people say they want to stop spending, they need to simply stop spending; yeah, it’s not that easy but they know this – so why continue to make the claim when these people know they cannot make good on their promise?

So this 1 citizen is asking why these 545 people seem to have the same qualities and attributes that he normally sees in other every day average citizens, even himself sadly at times and he is asking himself, can we do better?

If only money spent fixing mistakes, was instead spent helping others

BP states Gulf Oil spill to cost more than $6 billion and I have to ask, ignoring the emotion, the outcry and just focusing on that number:  How much good could that much money do elsewhere in the world, if this spill hadn’t happened?

I think about stuff like this, far far to often, but just imagine for a moment, if one day a company announced that they were going to assist say, country X with $1 billion dollars.  After the world media stopped the kneejerk reaction of “What are they after, what are their real motives?” and started to focus on the GOOD in the action, can you imagine just how GOOD that much unsolicited money could do?

I’m not talking like, donating it to the Red Cross, a local charity or the government.  I’m talking walking down the streets, getting personal and making the money COUNT for something.  Going house to house, giving people just a little bit more than needed to help them get out over their heads, to lift their quality of life a little bit in a way that would makes sense for the recipient.  There would sadly, need to be a LOT of safeguards in place to prevent abuse or individuals from taking advantage, but does that mean something like this isn’t possible?  No, just highly unlikely, sadly.

In my mind, I envision this sort of thing happening – I want to see a company, or even a very wealthy individual, take this sort of action and really help people out.  I want to see the people being helped not try and “get as much as possible” but take what’s given and make it count to their situation, their life.  If someone from this imaginary company contacted me, I knew they were on the up and up, I would gladly show a representative my needs, explain my situation with facts, and be happy to accept whatever they were willing to help me with, without complaining that “that guy over there got twice as much!” as, I believe a lot of people would end up doing!

You know how you dream about winning the lottery?  My dream includes helping my family, my friends and those I have met in life whom I know really need a helping hand.  I don’t know why more people don’t truly think like that, and I don’t mean specifically when dreaming about winning the lottery.  I mean in life in general, from the big things to the small things.  Opening doors for people, helping little old ladies across the street!

But, anyway.  A pipe dream, of course.  But, if it ever happens I would like to think my will to make it so helped someway, somehow.

So, what company with billions of dollars, wants to help some people out?  Contact them, make it easy, ask for bills, send a person by.  Heck, send me by..I would LOVE to be the guy helping like that and I would DO IT FOR FREE as long as my travel, room and meals were covered!

Loss

What is loss?

A defeat to a rival in a sports competition?  A deprived sum of money in a card game?  The loss of a motor vehicle from an accident or sale?  The loss of a job, of an important trinket or the loss of a dear friend?

The actual loss, is none of those things.  Yet, it is all of them.  The loss comes not from the absence of tangible objects, nor from the friendship no longer had.

Loss comes from the bond you had made with each relationship, tangible or not, that you had made in your life.  The loss comes from the disconnect of not having that treasured item in your possession or the confidence of your friend.  The loss is not from the actual missing item, it is not born from what is taken from you by any means.

It is born from the strength of the bond you had formed that is now broken, it is fueled by the energy of that bond as it is broken.  All the feeling, emotion, time, effort, money you had invested in making that bond, establishing and maintaining it over time.

For that energy builds up, it adds meaning to the bond; it adds sentiment, value.  There is no limit, no filling of this bond, for how can you fill your heart and mind?

That is why, when the bond is broken, the resulting reaction is never measurable, never calculable.  It is erupts with all the energy, time, effort, value and emotion you have invested.  It bursts forth and creates a new bond, multiplied tenfold by the addition of a new element:  Loss.

They mix, tangle and weave together until the loss overwhelms the shattered remains of your bond, using them to strengthen itself and dig in.

Your loss will always be different than my loss, for none of us ever invests the same amount into the bonds we create during life.  But each of our losses is born from the same fragments that were once those bonds, fueled only by our investments.

Neither loss, is less important than the other.

I added the following on 08132010+1952, after the passing of Ebony – The loss of King is what prompted me to type this post to begin with.  I was either afraid of this happening again or must have known subconsciously this was coming since Ebony has been sick, but being treated, for the past two weeks.  The Vet had assured us just this weekend that it was the ulcer returned or her pancreas…she was seen less than 48 hours before her passing…why didn’t they known something was wrong??

RIP King 09272003

King was my first cat.  I was the lucky one to have received him.  He and his sister, Mittens, were gifts for my sister and I’s birthdays in 92/93 (Can’t recall exact year) and he was my best friend through some very tough and trying times.  He was my boy for just over 10 years, we went through a lot together – He was always there for me and I was always there for him.  He is the son I am never going to have, I loved him so.

..or is he learning all my gaming secrets?

King watching me probably playing DragonRealms, text-RPG!

His sister is still alive, thankfully, and living with my Mom…I am not going to be in a good mood when that dreadful day comes either.  My boy King though, I let him out one day and he never returned.  He knew the area well, he was a very experienced outdoor cat.  I have no idea what happened to him.  No remains on any nearby roads, I checked seven animal shelters.  The not knowing is the hard part for me.  I’m the type of person that needs to know things.

My dad still lives in the same house where he was lost..every single time I pull into his driveway I have to harden my resolve to not rummage every single square inch of his property…again.  When I walk through the house, I have to stop myself from looking for him around every corner, in all his favorite hiding spots.  My Dad and I are on talking terms, at best.  He has never said anything to me about it, he is not an animal person.

Hey, whatcha doing?

King waiting for me to sit down so he can get comfortable in my lap again.

But he loves me, and I think, hope,

he understands and I know he knows what I am doing sometimes and still remains silent.

I have so few pictures of him, too.  Digital cameras were not as common as they are today, I did not have one back then until I received a WebCam for my computer for my birthday the same year he went missing.  I had it for three months and took about 20 pictures of him around the computer, on my lap, on my chair, on my keyboard!

I still love him and miss him terribly.

RIP Ebony 08132010

Ebony is..was, the second cat I opened up too, and I fought it so hard which makes this all that much more difficult for me.  I didn’t want to get attached again, and lose another member of my family.  I am not close to my sister at all, on OK terms with my Dad and great terms with my Mom.  But even my Mom isn’t as close as King and Ebony were to me.  It hurts, losing a loved one.  Time heals all wounds?  100% incorrect I believe.  Time will simply desensitize you to the pain, but it is always there lurking in the shadows waiting for a scent or scene to trigger the memories and pain.  You never forget that which you love, and if you claim love and forget; your love was never true.  Painful words, but if  you think about it..painfully accurate.

She was a silly fur-ball, just loved sitting on the back of my computer chair, the kind with NO room for a cat to sit on and lay across, but she managed.  She had this towel fetish, where we could put a towel across our laps and as soon as she saw it, would come running and leap into it and just curl up for hours.  I played many a computer game with her curled up and asleep in my lap for hours and hours on end.  She also liked to sleep with us in the bed, as most cats do.  She would plop herself down on my chest when I was on my back, or on my shoulder if on a side and just lay there purring.

Balancing sleepy kitty!

I still love him and miss him terribly.

It’s TIME to FACE the “Apple Facts”

So I was shaking my head and laughing (Thanks @HilzFuld) at how the top four posts over at TechCrunch were Apple related, when one of the titles caught my interest. “FaceTime and Why Apple’s Massive Integration Advantage is Just Beginning“.

After reading the article, I realized that every single word after the first four paragraphs is nothing subjective writing, business decisions and “fluff” which I believe is purposely designed to “encourage” readers to stop reading at that point and click away with just the first four paragraphs having been read. Oh yeah, everything after the first four were also entirely irrelevant to the title of the article with the exception of the last paragraph.  Rather annoyed, I focused on the words that irked me enough to click the link originally Apple’s “massive integration advantage”??

With FaceTime, Apple now has one integrated service with their device.  One.  Am I failing to see their “massive integration advantage” or is one the new trump in the numbers game?  Last I checked, the higher the better.  So how does one integrated service give Apple a massive advantage?  I’m not asking how well it works, I’m not asking how the experience is, nor am I saying it is a bad service or anything of the like.  I am asking a very straight and to the point question, which has the same kind of answer:  It doesn’t give Apple any advantage at all.

In fact, not only does FaceTime not give them any advantage in the integration discussion, I think it gives them a disadvantage.  With FaceTime, who can you chat with?  Other FaceTime users.  Who can’t you chat with?  Anyone on Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, TracFone or any other CDMA carrier.  Oh yeah, also anyone without an iPhone 4, since that is the only device that supports FaceTime.  Apple has said FaceTime was built on open standards and they will release the code so other companies can build around it, but will that mean a basement application from some snot-nosed kid will allow you to talk with other FaceTime users?  Highly doubtful.

I can pick up my N900 and I have Skype, Facebook, Google Talk and VoIP services integrated into the device by default.  1..2….3…4 services!  As far as the numbers game goes, 4 > 1.  Not only does this device have more than the Apple iPhone 4, but so do others!  To top it off, the best part of all?

I can start a video chat with anyone who has a capable device.  Verizon, Sprint?  Yup!

So, where is that advantage now?  Why is being limited to ONE device on ONE cell phone carrier called an advantage?  That is very confusing to me.  Not the why, I know the why because I am not blinded by shiny objects and a guy who can talk the talk.  The confusing part is people will read that story and accept it as fact, as truth and as if Apple has gone and wrote the book as having the first device capable of doing video chat!

Thank you @phonelover for the help choosing a title of this blog post!

Painting on the iPad and N900

Just a quick blurb and a poll, nothing to deep.

iPad Painting done by David Kassan using Brushes app:

N900 Painting done by Luovatone using MyPaint:

What you have here, are two pieces of technology that have come from vastly different circles of the design life.  Both however, were used to create exceptionally well drawn pieces of art!

The iPad clearly benefits from the larger screen size, however severely suffers in the accuracy department.  The N900 has a tremendous amount of accuracy as seen in the video.  I think the N900 is the better choice personally for its portability and accuracy.  Sure, the iPad has a bigger screen but due to it’s touch screen type, you need to zoom in and out and move around just as much as the N900.  It’s a trade off either way and is totally a preference thing on which to use.  However, the N900 wins with accuracy, which when drawing is kinda important to most artists.

Which would you rather draw on?  Feel free to answer and explain why in the comments, interested in hearing your opinions!

Jobs didn’t know…

…about the iPhone 4 reception issues or was misinformed by his employees.

Let me get this out first.  I hope Apple goes down in flames, I hope open source terrorists blow up their buildings (after making sure everyone is out) and they are never able to recover.  I want them to burn baby, BURN! There, now that that is out of my system, let me continue to defend Mr. Jobs here!

There is one pedestal that I put Apple on myself, and that is the user experience one.  Jobs has basically made it a company mandate.  Heck it is probably part of their employee hand book that no employee is allowed to take action that could even possibly remotely maybe almost reduce by .0000001% the user experience for their consumers.  If there are few truths in the universe, this is one of them.

If Jobs knew the antenna issue was of strong enough complaint to produce a string of news story to a level far far below what they are at now, he would have made a decision to ensure those news stories never had a chance to be formed.  It doesn’t matter if he found out now with millions of units already produced and shipped, while they were still on the assembly line or during the testing process.  He would have made the right decision with the user experience in mind.

This sort of media exposure, also gives the appearance that Apple is like every other company out there.  They have long been regarded as the company with an impeccable quality assurance team that goes through rigorous testing procedures on all their products.  No matter how Apple handles this situation, it has allowed for some doubt to enter people’s mind.  And that, for Jobs, is almost as bad as hurting the user experience.

This leads me to believe that Jobs didn’t know, although there is another remote possibility that entered my mind.

What if, just what if the shell that had encased the iPhone 4, making it looks like an older model, was put on the first time the entire unit was assembled?  What if the importance of getting this shell around the newly designed money maker, was of such high priority, that common sense just went out the window and they simply never tested the device without the shell and there is just to much embarrassment circling that “mistake”?

I know little hiccups like that can happen if there is a lack of communication between departments.  Jobs could have mandated one department do the shell and gave them carte blanche to make it happen and through their zeal, normal testing on the device just simply forgot to test it without the shell?  Food for thought.
